Suddenly It’s Winter

I thought spring is here, but crazy weather makes it winter again!  There has been intermittent light rain, flurries, big snow flakes and cloudy or sunny sky. … It’s freezing cold 🥶, just like in the deep winter. My goodness! What a day! (3/26/2022)

Forsythia, Daffodil and Self made Basket

I don’t need to force forsythia anymore, they are blooming everywhere now! Also daffodils are budding and blooming in my garden and neighborhood. Spring is here!

Forsythia and Basket (2)

I made another two different kinds of  baskets arrangements, I used almost the same materials I had before, just added some Japanese quince branches, I forced them a week ago but it’s still budding!  I went to my garden to check out my Japanese quince bushes today (3/22/2022), it’s about time to flower!

Forsythia and Basket (1)

The first day of spring today (3/20/2022), the warm weather makes some of forsythia burst open and daffodils too!  Actually, the forsythia I used here was forced, needed only a few days! The other flowers were leftover.  The basket is not a new one but I like it very much and used it for the first time.

Happy 1st Birthday to Grandson

We have 6 grandchildren, Teddy is the youngest one. His parents celebrated his 1st birthday in traditional Korean style (his father is Korean American).  I, as grandma and an ikebanist, delightfully made a pair of tall flower arrangements.  His Halmeoni (grandma in Korean) prepared sweet rice cake and mochi.  Teddy grabbed an apple instead of other objects, this means he might go into educational field in the future, following in his mother’s foot steps. (Please see photos below)

Two or More Containers

Lesson 2): Two or more containers book (3-4),  I picked one moribana and one nageire for my containers, and I utilized spring plant materials: Azalea, forsythia and Japanese quince (both forced), tulip and other flowers.

Upright Style Basic Moribana

Lesson 3):  Actually, during the March class (3/10/2022), we had a photographer take one or more of each participant’s arrangement and then compile them in an online exhibit for our Mainline study group.  This will be posted on the I.I. Website.

Clear Glass and Water Arrangement

The I.I. Philadelphia chapter program for February were “Using clear glass and water”,  featuring demonstrations by our member Sima, she made many pieces of simple and beautiful arrangements and inspired many of us viewers too. This was a zoom class, I only had two better pictures showed below. The other arrangements were using multiple clear glass containers or different shapes.  It’s interesting to see the arrangements with their reflections and distortion, all were very nice! It’s truly Less is More! (2/24/2022)
