2013 The Philadelphia International Flower Show -Brilliant- (1 )

Brilliant! is the theme.
The 2013 Philadelphia International Flower Show (3/2-3/10) "glows with the majestic beauty and creative genius of Great Britain, and is inspired by centuries of culture, culminating in the urbane design of modern day London."
As a volunteer International Ikebana hostess (I answered viewer's Ikebana questions, my shift was 3/8/2013 from 3 to 5:30 pm). I got the chance to view the Ikebana display and the entire convention center's beautiful setting and exhibition. I will post some pictures that caught my eye.

Japanese Quince (Quince Japonica)

I love Japanese quince very much. I always like to force it to flower, starting in early February. It takes about two to three weeks, submerging it in water to make the buds burst open. When it grows outdoor ( zone 5 ) its flowers are pinkish color, but forced they are more pale. They are equally beautiful! Good for ikebana use.
Here are four branches. I just put them into a tall vase.
Does it look like Ikebana?

Simplified Arrangement - (Book 4-8)

This is my third time making the same assignment. Again, trying to make an arrangement as simple as possible, such as finding the perfect material or trimming it to its ultimate limit, is quite a challenge.
After you have an idea set in your mind, then it is easy to arrange. See below:
Materials: Tiger tail (or snake plant), Japanese quince
and Tulip. This hand made ceramic container and the
arrangement suit very well together.
