Virtual Ikebana Exhibition (1) - “ We Are In This Together”

Today, I would like to post my two arrangements for virtual exhibition here. You also can view all of our other members’ arrangements at the Sogetsu BuxMont study group’s website.

My first arrangement: Two basket balls made from vine and one ball covered with moss. The three of them arranged to unify as one piece of work. My interpretation is “We are in this TOGETHER” to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.

Materials: Mum, statice, baby’s breath, nandina and soft metal wire

Virtual Ikebana Exhibition (2) - Peace On Earth

I hope this arrangement brings everyone hope, peace and love!

A piece of hollow birch tree bark that I found in the park. It’s very fragile and delicate! I carefully arranged pine, mum, nandina and baby’s breath into the hole. It’s simple but effective for my title. Do you agree?

“ Ice Palace” Monochromatic Design for MWGC

This arrangement was for my Martha Washington garden club’s January virtual little show. The title “Ice Palace” was a monochromatic design. I created an arrangement using all white color materials but a little bit of blue alliums for the blue crystal vase.

Materials: Chrysanthemum, baby’s breath, painted allium and twig, snow flakes / blue crystal vase

Oncidium Orchid - Sherry Baby

When my Cymbidium and Cattleya are fading, the Oncidium will take their place to bloom. Even though there is only one kind of orchid blooming this month, at least it has one bloom all the time!

I present “Sherry Baby” Oncidium orchid this time. It has vanilla chocolate fragrance, you will never forget, and wish to own this orchid!

Oncidium “Sherry Baby” smell like vanilla chocolate

“Pinocchio” lady slipper still blooming

“We Are in This Together”

The final flyer looks like this: After I discussed with teacher MeeiHuey Lin, she suggested to scatter more dried Sweetgum fruits around. I agreed!

The spiky dried Sweetgum fruits and yellow billy buttons as virus, the round and round vine symbolize togetherness, the roses are love, peace and hope for all of us to have a better healthy life ahead of us!!

The virtual exhibition will be posted on 1/30/2021 by Sogetsu BuxMont study group website.

The Arrangements Made from a Birthday Bouquet

I must mention here that I received a beautiful bouquet from my daughter for my birthday last December. It’s just in time for me to use those flowers to prepare an arrangement for an upcoming virtual exhibition flyer. The title “We Are In This Together” was my pandemic theme idea, it got the most votes from the members of the BuxMount study group. My arrangement will be in the flyer with the title “We are in this together” to recognize the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The arrangements below were from my first attempt to the last final version of the theme flyer. The lily, roses, green carnation, baby’s breath and hypericum (wort) were all from my bouquet. The rest of them were bitter sweet vine, nandina, and dried billy button (craspedia) were found around my house. The spiky dried Sweetgum fruits (found in the park) I scattered and stuck to the self made basket container. All the materials I used for this arrangement, plus I need your imagination about the CORONAVIRUS.

Arrangement Using Bamboo

I placed the bamboo in an upright position to make another arrangement. I used the same materials as the previous one, changed the magnolia branch to bamboo grass (from a dwarf bamboo plant). I wish the bamboo hole was cut on higher position, not in the center, the whole composition might look better!

New Year Arrangement

These were two different visions of an arrangement. Please see below: The first one I added Cymbidium leaves and origami cranes. The other was the original one. I did submit these two photos to Hata Sensei’s zoom teaching class this month (1/18/2021). Waiting for critique. [ Sensei said the branch has nice flow]

Materials:  Magnolia branch, pine, mum, baby’s breath, cymbidium leaves, nandina, Mizuhiki and cranes / bamboo
