The Spring Like Weather Warm and Sunny - A Fleeting Moment

The weather this week was surprisingly warm, two days reached up to 70+ degrees! But it was just a fleeting moment. It’s back to reality now, still in the winter. I took advantage of the warm and sunshine to take a walk with my husband to nearby Northern Dutchess Hospital, where we were able to stroll around the park path comfortably! We did the walk three times in a row this week. It lifted up my spirits a little and had me feeling cheerful a little too!

I really admire and appreciate this Cattleya orchid plant! The condition of this house for orchids is not very ideal but the two orange color orchids (from division) are blooming still! This tough Cattleya blooms almost every year!  (3/13/2026)

Orchid Bloom for Lunar New Year

Cymbidium orchids often bloom in January. This is the only one blooming, which I have had for so many years. It always blooms faithfully around Lunar New year time (1/29/2025)!  It is a good thing that I have something to celebrate! Besides, their flowers can last for several weeks.

Fall Bloom Cattleya Orchid

This summer season was really cruel for my orchids! It had been scorching hot, dry and no rain for long periods of time. I lost quite a bit of my orchids! I think this Cattleya orchid is a tough one, I checked my record, it bloomed in year of 2020, 2022 and now 2024, its name is Hawaiian Passion “Carmela”. I am so grateful!  If you interested, Please check my blog, I posted on 10/15/2022 for this subject.

The budding plant is division of the same one

Orange Cattleya Orchid

I have had this Cattleya orchid from the Bucks County Orchid Society for a long time. I think it’s easy to grow. No matter what kind of condition, it blooms every winter faithfully! The young division plant also looks good. It’s a big sized orchid plant but has a compact cluster of orange flowers! Unfortunately, I don’t know its name.

Hawaiian Passion “Carmela”

This is an easy growing Cattleya that produces 3 1/2 inch clusters of yellow green flowers. Very fragrant!  Looking through the history of my blog, I found that I have been growing this orchid for more than 10 years. It bloomed two years ago in the fall of 2020, with only three flowers, but this year it has six flowers!

It’s a Cattleya orchid, it might have been in full bloom for a couple of days! I also discovered a few other orchids are budding too! Please see below:
