Memorial Celebration and Exhibition

The memorial celebration event was in honor of our beloved friend and Sensei, Midori Tanimune. Held  on May 23, 2023 at the DuPont Country Club, Wilmington, Delaware. Sponsored by her Brandywine Study Group. In order to commemorate her and celebrate her life, the event included Ikebana exhibition,  buffet luncheon and followed by testimonials, poetry reading, and reminiscences of Midori and her many contributions to ikebana and the art.

She was always dear to me, I treasure her friendship and miss her.

This was my final design of the arrangement, ready for exhibition at my dear friend’s memorial celebration. All the materials were from my garden except the red peony.

Arrangements Using Peonies

The bloom of my tree peonies have faded, but the other regular peonies are in full bloom now! I have different shades of pink and single pedal red, all are very pretty, unfortunately they do not last long!

I made this arrangement a week ago. (5/15/2023)

Composing With Branches - A Two Steps Approach

Lesson (1) for May 16: Composition with branches- A two step approach. I found a few pieces of branches from my collection. I intersected at least three pieces of them, using wires as needed to make them stand on their own. Then I chose tree peony and Solomon seal for the plant materials and ceramic container to complete this composition.

Making Origami Crane

Lesson (2) for May 16: In the afternoon, we all learned how to make the origami crane, guided by Hata  Sensei. It’s a bit complicated at some points! But everybody was able to finish a lovely crane at the end. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to make an arrangement with it! I am thinking I will do it some time later.

The Happiest Mother’s Day - An Arrangement and Sushi Dinner

My children were not able to come home for Mother’s Day celebration. Instead of going out to dinner with my husband, they had a local Japanese restaurant deliver a sushi dinner for us to enjoy at home! I was so grateful! I quickly made an arrangement and dressed up the dishes, together we had wonderful dinner at home! I wish all my family and young mothers were as happy as I on the Mother’s Day! (5/14/2023)

An Arrangement with two Yellow Peonies Bloom

The tree peony flowers don’t last long, and before they were gone I made two arrangements so far! Besides, all of sudden! All kinds of hosta are full grown, big and small, they are good materials to use.(5/11)

The First Peony Bloom and A New Container

My yellow tree peony always blooms first beyond all the other kinds.  I cut two of them and tried to use my new found container from flea market. This arrangement is not only “color in contrast” but its container also enhances the beauty, I think.

Lily of the Valley and Lilac Arrangement

The lily of the valley is a beautiful plant with a delightful and aromatic scent. The plant has been spreading more and more in my shady garden. It’s a pity that I never used them for my arrangement?!

Here is an arrangement I just made using lily of the valley and lilac. The black glass vase with a white line design, so I added a curved bamboo reed around as part of the design.

Special Recognition - Long Time Member of MWGC

I can’t believe how fast time has flown! I have been a member of MWGC for 25 years! A club member friend especially invited me to attend April’s meeting. The club reserved a special table to honor its long time members, two members who have been in the club 50 years and seven members at least 25 years. I felt very honored and delighted to be recognized! I got a loud applause!!! 😊 (4/26/2023)
