Colors in the Same Tonal Range (2) - Free style for A Birthday Wish

Using the same color purple tone materials (added liriope) I made another arrangement. It’s freestyle. Just in time for a birthday wish to my daughter!  It’s the end of August, school opens soon, she is a public high school principal in NYC, tons of responsibilities and two very young boys. All I have to say is that, take it easy, don’t stress out and happy birthday! We are so proud of you!

Colors in the Same Tonal Range (1) - Horizontal Style

Autumn onion (or prairie onion) is my perennial plant, cockscomb and globe amaranth are annual plants, from my friend’s garden.  By combining materials with a similar color purple, I created a horizontal style arrangement.

Vegetable and Fruit in an arrangement

Our tomato plants are producing much more tomatoes this year. Because we planted more and paid more attention to them. We have been harvesting them one by one. Their color with Mardi gras flower (not much bloom left) matches so well, so I added dragon eye fruit and made an arrangement. (Textbook 4/10)

A Sweet Memory - with Longan (Dragon Eye Fruit)

A good friend of us brought me a bunch of tropical fruit “Dragon eye (龍眼)”.  They are so precious to us! Because we have not seen them and eaten them for so many years. It reminds me of the sweet taste and memory of longan in Taiwan! They are summer fruits and delicious! (thanks Katy). Before we eat them all, I want to make a simple mass arrangement.

Materials: dragon eye fruit and crape myrtle / metal moon shaped container and its stand.

Leatherleaf Viburnum

The branches of leatherleaf viburnum with berries were my main material, with dahlia from my garden, this was my original arrangement. But I thought adding two more hydrangeas would look fuller and make for a better color combination too. What do you think?

Beautiful Tiny Butterfly - Spotted Lantern Fly

When my husband and I took a walk, I spotted a tiny red butterfly on the ground. It’s a beautiful bug but they are invasive, harmful pests. Please see information below:

Tree Bark and Limelight Hydrangea

Two hollow, round shaped tree barks as containers; I placed plastic bottle inside to hold water. It’s nice to have the limelight hydrangea for Summer material with the tree bark, it has a rustic beauty and is kind of cool!

Same Container with Different Flowers

I made two arrangements using the same container, driftwood and Solomon seal. The difference were the flowers which I can change from time to time without shortage. So, I can enjoy my arrangement for a while.

The driftwood goes well with ceramic container

Hydrangea, daylily, leopard Lily, balloon flower

Epiphyllum Cactus Orchid

This cactus orchid plant has been with me from a young plant to its first time bloom this Summer; it took three years. The flower went from a slightly open to full bloom in two days, and then wilted! This beautiful flower is really short lived. The white “Queen of the night” bloom is even shorter, often blooming at midnight, and when you wake up, it’s gone! (曇花一現)
