Tree Peony and Arrangements

I am glad that my tree peony got stronger and healthier this year, compared to a few years ago. It was transplanted from my friend’s garden. It had four flowers, which was double than the last year. I love its unusual beautiful color! I used my other yellow tree peony for my demo arrangement last month. (You can check it out on my 5/23/2022 blog.)

May Orchids Bloom

The three pots of Cattleya orchids have been blooming for more than a month now! The identical plants were from me dividing them. I have had them for many years. They are long-living Cattleya orchids!

Demonstration and Workshop

Here are the four demonstration arrangements using self made reed structures and some of the other arrangements from students’ workshop. This was a program of the Sogetsu BuxMount Study Group for their members. The subject was “Composition of Wood and Branches with Woven Structures." (5/14/2022)

How did I make my structure? As you see here, I bent a big piece of vine, then used reeds to weave around it.

Basic Style Variation No#1 Slanting Style Nageire

Lesson 3: Thanks to my daughter, I received a lovely Mother’s Day bouquet with fresh roses and lilacs that I used for this basic slanting style! It’s also a “Colors in the same tonal range” arrangement.

Lesson 2: With branches only.  Lilac branches and maple tree like branches (name unknown) crossed together in a ceramic suiban, my daughter made for me as a gift.

Three Class Lessons for May 12

Lesson 1: Review basic slanting style moribana. If peonies are available, they are recommended for this lesson, otherwise try to use flowers with similar characteristics. I am lucky! My yellow tree peony is blooming just in time for me to use!

I only used one peony because it’s too big

Mother’s Day Bouquet

My daughter came home for Mother’s Day, with two young boys (ages 3 and 1) and brought me a beautiful bouquet! There were pink roses, peonies, white freesias, baby’s breath, some green, etc.

I came out with some ideas for the arrangements. I made one basic slanting style nageire for the subject of May’s (5/12/2022) class lesson, another one was freestyle using freesia. (5/10/2022)

An Arrangement Without Kenzan

I tried to arrange azalea and Japanese quince branches in a triangle suiban without using kenzan. I also added driftwood to get more support for branches and it looked nicer overall. Sunflower and purple azalea are colors in contrast. (5/4/2022)

Wildflowers in a Basket

I was walking around the park the other nice day and I noticed a lot of weed-like tiny white flowers, some of them were clumped together on the grass ground.  I thought using them to make an arrangement into a self made basket would be very cute and pretty. (5/3/2022)
